A Songwriter’s Cry for Help!

I don’t just love music… I love love music! I am the kind of guy whose bad day can be reversed simply by rolling down the windows and blasting a favorite song while winding my way down a country road.

Music sets the tone for life. Your life in tune sounds quite differently than when your life is out of tune.

When we read about King David in the Bible, we can easily picture the dude slinging a rock and nailing Goliath right between the eyes. But his songs written in the book of Psalm’s show a sensitive, perhaps a dark side.

This big shot King sure did wear his emotions on his robe. He is constantly crying out to God… for good reason. He spent countless days in hiding from his enemies, and wondering if God was hiding from him. He eloquently describes his situations and feelings of abandonment in his songs.

But this is what I love about David – the superstar songwriter. Through his sorrow, through his abandonment, despite coming face to face with death… David cried out to the Lord, His Savior.

I oftentimes wonder if David battled depression… like many of us do. Maybe he used writing songs as a therapy, like many poets and songwriters do today.

But David shows us that there is hope no matter the circumstance.
